Homework Q & A
Q: What if my child forgets to bring his or her homework home?
A: It's a fourth grade policy that students and parents cannot come back to the classroom after dismissal time. If your child forgets his/her homework, please have him/her complete an alternate assignment from the list below. Then send in a note letting me know what was completed. An alternative assignment will not be accepted if a child had more than one night to complete the original assignment. If a child forgets his/her homework often, the teacher and parents will need to begin signing the child's agenda daily to ensure homework is completed.
Homework Alternatives
~Read and write a summary
~Call a classmate for HW assignments
~Practice similar problems or examples on regular paper
~Complete HW on paper instead of in your journal or HW sheet
~ Spend 30 minutes on a recommended website
Q: What if my child is spending more than an hour on his or her homework?
A: We do not want to students to spend more than one hour a night working on homework. If your child is attentively working for more than one hour, let him/her stop and send in a note informing me what assignment was taking so long.
Q: Is homework graded?
A: Homework is not graded. However, it is important for students to consistently practice what they are learning at school. Students who complete their homework and turn it in with their name on it will earn a ticket. It's also a great opportunity for you to become involved in your child's learning and even help identify areas where they may be struggling.
